Wine Question

Wine Related Question Gimme a red!

I am a big white wine fan, particularly Zinfandel, I know, yucky, but would like to branch out into the reds. Could you recommend a good red that I might like. I have not had any luck with the ones I have tried. I guess I am stuck on the sweetness of the zins. Thx.

Answer by: Roger C. Bohmrich, MW

Since your palate may tend toward very easy, somewhat sweet wines, it may be hit and miss with reds. My suggestion would be to focus on basic (California) appellation Merlot and basic Australian Merlot and Shiraz. These tend to be soft and fruity, and many contain a small amount of residual sugar.
