Kagor Wine

Should this wine be served cold and paired with what?
Answer From Expert Roger Bohmrich MW

To be honest, I have never tasted this wine, which is produced by a large wine concern in the Republic of Moldova. I found a few listings at retail in the U.S. for what is described as a sweet red dessert wine. Probing further, it seems to be made from Cabernet Sauvignon, possibly with the addition of Saperavi - which would be plausible considering it is described as a deeply colored wine. Is this the wine you have? I am not clear as to the actual degree of sweetness, but assuming it is high, I would imagine that it could be served cool if not chilled, depending on the level of tannin: a very low temperature might make the wine quite astringent. As for food pairings, this sort of wine could work equally well with many desserts, perhaps blueberry pie, or with savories such as strong cheeses, including Stilton or other blue cheese.
